My 4th grandfather, Peter F. Nine. “Served” as a substitute for the Union Army as guard for the 6th WV Infantry from February - June of 1865. (Apologies for the garbage photo)
My 5th Grandfather, Robert Davidson. One of my few direct ancestors that fought in the Union Army. He possibly took part in the many operations against John Hunt Morgan, including the Battle of Cynthiana.
Another one of my unfortunate ancestors. He fought with the 7th Tennessee Infantry during the Civil War. At some point, he was captured, and paroled on January 25, 1864. Circa 1910s.
Am I shadow banned?
How many of your direct ancestors fought in the Union Army?
Some interesting stuff my 4th Grandfathers have here 🤦🏻♂️
What is your favorite opening number?
Anyone able to make out the “remarks?”
Unfortunately, most of direct family didn’t fight in the Union Army during the Civil War. One of them being my 3rd Grandfather, Allen Haley Taylor, for the 4th Alabama Cav. He was apparently the last Confederate vet in Franklin County.
My 4th great uncle, Lt. Nimrod N. Hoffman of the 1st West Virginia Cavalry during the Civil War. If only I had a direct relation to him. Oak Grove Cemetery, West Virginia.
What’s one person you wished you had a direct relation to?
This is the second time I’ve got stuff wrong about my family Civil War life.
My coward of a 4th Grandfather, Andrew Jackson Baker. He stayed home while his brothers went and fought in the Union Army.
My 4th Great Grandfather, George Washington Hoffman. He served with the 15th WV Infantry in the Union army. He died of pneumonia during Petersburg, missing Appomattox. City Point National Cemetery.
Unfortunately, I have more family that didn’t fight in the Union Army during the Civil War. One of them being my 3rd Grandfather, Allen Haley Taylor, for the 4th Alabama Cav. He was apparently the last Confederate vets in Franklin County.
A portrait I had taken at the 160th Bentonville Reenactment. Inspired by the photo of Edwin Francis Jemison.
My 3x great-grandfather, John Thomas Wilson, served in the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Found this article detailing a letter he wrote to his hometown paper in 1862 while fighting in North Carolina.
Gravestone of my 5th Grandfather at Zollicoffer Park, who was killed at Mill Springs. His son deserted the day after his death, while another one of his sons was fighting in a Union Kentucky regiment.
My 4th Great Uncle, Sgt. Wiley Baker. He served with 4 of his brothers in the 8th Kentucky Infantry (Union) until he was killed in action at Stones River. Buried at the Stones River National Cemetery.
Disappointing number of Southern apologists in the comments
I’m ashamed of my Confederate ancestors, and I have barely any Union vets to make up for it.
