anyone else enter pharma with a barely-relevant PhD?

I got hired somehow (very grateful) because I have a very broad skillset and am good at framing my seminars, but truthfully I lack relevant expertise. Constantly asking basic questions just to get up to speed wears down on my ego. I find myself jealous of those who did their PhD in a relevant and applied field.

I’m thankful that I have a supportive team but I’m also exhausted from working overtime and reading papers on the weekends. I didn’t expect industry to be this intense, to be honest. I’m still happier than I was in grad school, but the learning curve now is steep and people aren’t so forgiving. Luckily my skin is relatively thick from being grilled in school, but still, I find myself struggling to keep up.

Maybe if you’ve gone through something similar I would love if you could share. I’m the only one in my cohort who ended up in pharma, and I just feel so alone.
