My Headcanon: Events After The End

Hi everyone :) I was just thinking about how I’d write the events after The End. To be honest I’m not the best writer but I wanted to share my general ideas here with other ASOUE people.

I have my headcanon split into two parts: the Baudelaires returning to their new lives and their lingering legacy.

Part 1: A Treacherous Transition

--Back From the Island--

Eventually the Baudelaires are able to reach the mainland. While there they’re able to find Justice Strauss and clear their names. For a couple years they remain under Justice Strauss’s care as their legal guardian. When Violet turns 18 she uses part of her inheritance to build a secluded off the grid mansion for them. The Baudelaires move there and it becomes the new “headquarters” of a rebuilding VFD. Due to her age Beatrice II stays with Justice Strauss but she remains an active part of the Baudelaires’ lives.

--A New Start for VFD--

At HQ the Baudelaires take a more active role in VFD leadership. The Man with a Beard and No Hair and the Woman with Hair but No Beard remain active threats. As well some Olaf sympathizers are still active. Along with tracking those threats the Baudelaires focus on recruiting new members and reaching out to existing members.

--The Quagmires --

Some frequent visitors to the new HQ include Duncan and Isadora Quagmire. While they are still involved with VFD they also have their own journey they’re on: trying to learn more about their family and the fate of their family’s lost sapphires. They return to HQ to conduct their research and get VFD updates.

--Violet and Quigley's Relationship--

Quigley’s a bit of a different case. After the separation he had from his other siblings the day his parents died in the fire he developed a more independent and wandering streak to him. Occasionally stopping by, but not for long. In his cyclical wanderings includes stopping by the new VFD HQ, rejoining his Quagmire siblings, and going off on his own exploring the world. In particular he has a close connection with Violet when at HQ, stemming from their romantic feelings from The Slippery Slope. One night when Violet is 22 things turn… intimate between the two. Quigley leaves again, but Violet realizes later she’s pregnant. She later has a son she names Bertrand after her late father. Quigley remains a presence in Bertrand’s life, but never a constant one. There’s no doubt he loves Violet and Bertrand, but he’s too entrenched in his own ways: coming and going, never staying for too long. Violet and Quigley never become officially committed, but neither seek out other romantic partners. They are forever bound together by their son and their mutual respect for each other.

--Klaus and Fiona's Unfinished Business--

As for Klaus, he has a complicated relationship with Fiona. She is unapologetic in her past actions and Klaus is forced to grapple with her betrayal, and in doing so, confront his own moral convictions. Fiona just tells him “he who hesitates is lost”. Eventually they’re able to work together professionally on some VFD ventures but there’s always an unspoken tension between their two ideologies.

--Beatrice and Bertrand: The Younger Generation--

Beatrice II grows up separate from the Baudelaires and VFD directly but grows to see them as mentors. That is, until she is old enough to hear about the mysterious circumstances surrounding her father’s death. A harpoon shot in the night, who was at fault? She hears about the Baudelaire’s involvement and they cannot say with certainty that they were not the ones to pull the trigger. With this, and her growing up away from the direct influence of VFD she begins to develop a disillusionment with VFD as a whole. This also creates some distance between herself and Bertrand, her closest in age, who grows up in the middle of VFD activities and has a closer bond with the Baudelaires. Growing up Bertrand and Beatrice II share a deep familial love, but never anything romantic. Still, Beatrice II remains another important person in Bertrand’s life.

--Sunny: The Generational Bridge--

As for Sunny, she remains a more neutral member of the younger generation. Still actively involved in VFD with her siblings, but also serving as a bridge for both Beatrice II and Bertrand. She is able to quietly observe Beatrice’s growing disillusionment with VFD and Bertrand’s growing involvement. Never fully choosing a side but always being a steady presence. She’s also able to hone her earlier cooking skills and apply them to her new missions, like through passing hidden messages in her dishes.

Part 2: A Humble History

--Bertrand's Adulthood and Ending Where We Began--

Fast forward some time, Bertrand is now 22. A new event sets in course the later events of his life: the sudden death of his mother Violet. After it Bertrand takes it upon himself to document the events of his mother’s earlier life, and the history of VFD. This becomes an obsession with him. He becomes a historian and writer, seeking out the truth. But during his travels he realizes the information he’s finding could put himself and his loved ones in danger. He can no longer keep his old identity as Bertrand Baudelaire. Inspired partially by his close relationship with Beatrice II, he decides to adopt a new identity: Lemony Snicket.

What do you guys think of my headcanon? I'm not that familiar with other ASOUE fan fiction and would be interested in what other people imagined as the Baudelaires' futures :)
