how best to write a character being interrupted in their sentence?
-It is not about...
-How can you do this to me?!
here, the three dots represent some time passing; the character is supposed to be interrupted, so there should be no time between about and how
-It is not about..
-How can you do this to me?!
the two dots represent less time passing but they still represent some time between about and how, as if the character knew they would be interrupted.
What else can I do? I thought about using / or - but I would have to tell my reader what they represent.
I also thought about removing the dots but then the reader might think there are missing words.
What are your thoughts?
edit: thanks everyone, I learned something today!
