Has anybody tried making a truly solid trumpet?
I know we’ve heard how megatone, apredato, tone enhancer mouthpieces and maybe even some of the stuff coming out of Harrelson with SWE technology have an effect on minimizing energy loss through the horn. My question is, has anyone taken this concept and attempted making a horn out of a one solid block of metal? I could see it being a really cool standalone sculpture that you could walk up to and play. One face of the block has a tiny hole for your mouthpiece, and the opposing face has a curved out hole being the “bell.” Would love to know what this would sound like. How would one even approach machining this without splitting the block into pieces and reassembling it? I guess with some metal 3d printing technology it could be possible to print it not sparing metal filament.
