Big Bend and Palo Duro Travel Advice Needed

Me and my buddy are from Omaha, Nebraska and looking to spend the next 5 or so upcoming days traveling, we really want to get somewhere warmer than here so we can camp comfortably.

We noticed that there will be some days this week in Big Bend National Park that are in the mid 60s which would be awesome, but it is over 1000 miles away from us, and we have a little bit of a budget as college kids. Palo Duro is significantly closer at only 600 miles, but is a tad colder with highs in the mid 50s.

Is the warmer weather, as well as I assume the greater hiking and sights worth the added mileage to head to Big Bend, or do you guys think we should shorten the trip by a day or two and go to Palo Duro to save some miles?
