"You don't have everything you need to solve this puzzle easily"

In my current SIU playthrough, I managed to reach the end of the lava area with the purple ring puzzle, but before getting the cube. I got this message which is obviously referring to that.

The phrasing is odd though - it seems to imply that there's a way to solve it, but not easily? Is there?
