Vote Jeffrey for VP Internal | SFSS Election Voting
Hi I'm Jeffrey, a VP Internal Candidate this year:
I hope everyone has voted already, but I wanted to say that I'm a bit disappointed with the electoral process this cycle and chat about some of the issues
I've emailed my concerns to the IEC after finding out about them:
To this, it was said that it was just a system oversight and that "SurveyMonkey has assured us that they'll examine the raw data and filter out multiple votes". I think based on other people's comments here, like technical docs on SurveyMonkey, this is feasible and fine, but it kinda sounds like the IEC itself just called up a customer service rep at the last minute to check if it'd be okay.
ALSO SurveyMonkey?! That's for asking if people wanna come to our events, not for such an important election!
I then said:
This was replied to that any computing ID can vote because it's the only authentication method they could set on SurveyMonkey. We were also told as a candidate body to assure students that multiple-voting and that invalid votes will be discarded
I would hope that the IEC considers a few steps to rectify this:
- Withhold results, the election's integrity has been cast in doubt, whether it's integral or not it'll be questioned for a long-time coming
- Re-run the election on an approved platform next week, if at all possible
I'm also wondering what remedies we have as a student body. It's great that we at Council can't fire electoral officials if we dislike their actions, but what do we do if we're upset at what they do in our most important moments?
