You can't expect a book written with AI to sell.

I've seen so many writers in this sub post things like "Why is my book not selling?" and it turns out their blurb is written with AI. Or worse, the book is AI-generated from cover to cover.

As a book marketer, I have people reaching out and asking me to develop a marketing strategy for their book because they don't "understand why it's not selling."

Here's the truth: people aren't dumb. They just aren't.

Would you pay to read something generated by ChatGPT? You most likely wouldn't. So why do you expect others to do so?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against AI in any way. I think it's a great tool for generating ideas, making quick edits on something, etc. I understand the appeal and why people are using it.

HOWEVER. That's what AI is: a tool. Not a replacement. Especially not a replacement for a writer. A writer has a voice. AI doesn't. People can feel it. If not, they wouldn't call you out on it.

Here's another truth: if you want to be part of the small % of authors actually making money from their books, you HAVE to put in the effort. This is not supposed to be easy. If it were, we'd all be rich by now.

You have to craft a good story yourself. Write it yourself, in your own words. Edit, edit, edit. Edit some more. But only YOU can convey the type of emotions, feelings, and authenticity readers crave when reading a book. AI can help with structure, ideas, etc. But in the end, it all comes down to you, the writer.

So if your book isn't selling...

Check the cover. Generated by AI? People will believe the whole book is AI-generated and won't purchase it.

Check the blurb. Generated by AI? Same answer.
