Confusion on access point/network options
Hi, I'm trying to get a proper layout plan and everything set up properly for my new outdoor security camera and smart doorbell system. After lots of reading on this forum and elsewhere, I've brought POE cabling from soffit mount locations back through attic and over on this new construction addition side of my home. The Cat5e ends will hook to a POE switch as well as the NVR I bought in all separate LAN ports, per the rec on here. Going backward further from the POE switch is where I'm getting confused and stressed because I can't find a definitive answer on what's the best way to set it up, at least in my situation. I don't have my main router anywhere near this side of our large house and there's no wifi connection yet (or cell phone reception for that matter) in this new build side.
My original intention was to use a basic wifi extender but research is pointing me away from that and to proper wired access points being much better. So if I use the last LAN port on my router and run cat5e down and over via my basement, I do have a conduit where we're bringing in 110 power already that I'll snake through easily. Sounds like I would use a POE injector between the router and AP. But then will I connect another ethernet cable from the AP LAN output to this before mentioned POE switch that goes to all the cams? I'm getting confused because I've been reading a lot of APs don't have LAN or POE outputs. And then I'm reading about latency or inadequacy issues but things I read contradict. So is an AP a suitable way for me to go from "router" (AP) then to POE switch and then to the cans etc, or is there a better way? One thought is that if I have to run that one cabling all the way from the other end of the house at the main router to hardwire my new AP, why not directly connect that cat5e directly to the new side's POE switch and the cams, but that doesn't get me wifi over there which I need anyway. So is there a "best way" to accomplish both? Do I need to split off that one cable coming direct from the main router and have one side go to the new AP and the other to my POE switch/Reolink setup? Sorry, I'm just getting confused and stayed up way way too late into the AM this morning researching this down rabbit holes of my own doing.
TL:DR Please give me direction on the best way to connect my main router from way on other side of the house to my new addition side where I will need wifi but also want to connect to a POE switch and Reolink setup.
