Graphics card driver update

tl;dr I did a graphics driver update before and my pc got messed up is it safe to do now.

Ok now for a bit of context. I own an RX 480 graphics card and I am trying to update it's drivers.

However I'm worried about this as when I did this about a year ago it really messed up my pc. It wouldn't run properly at all, it was very slow for a while. The issue randomly fixed itself after some time.

But now I'm trying to update again and I'm worried. I'm using the AMD software installer app which I got from the official AMD website so I know it's not the wrong software.

Is it safe to run or should I just stick with outdated drivers and not risk it.
