Hi docs! I have a question. How come in our healthcare system, patients can consult specialists immediately without a referral from a GP? Surg prof shared his experience today that when he had his fellowship in AU(?ata?) that they’d turn patients away if they come without a GP’s referral.

Is that really efficient and if yes, how come we don’t practice the same process?
