Question about chain rust

I replaced my motorcycles chain a little bit ago and haven't exactly been keeping up with it as i should. I don't know a ton about maintaining them but is this just surface rust?

I'm going to be lubing the chain and wondering what I can do to clean that off or help prevent it in the future. I've rarely noticed the chain sometimes has a small kink as well and I'm assuming it's just desperate for some lube causing most of this
