my experience with homophobia in this subreddit and at locals

with discussion about the art of the bearscape pride variant card seeming more and more rampant, i thought i’d talk about my past experiences with homophobia in this community, as now seems like a better time now more than ever.

i’ll start with this sub

looking through comments on discussion posts on the topic or on posts completely unrelated to it at all, ((such as a discussion post talking about over sexualized card art, and one of the comments bringing the pride bearscape art into the conversation, which is a huge issue in the first place, as two gay guys can be in a hot tub without it becoming sexual, like wtf dud)) i’ve seen ridiculous levels of homophobia.

one part of this is how said homophobes are perfectly okay with sexualizing women in card art, but are completely against sexualizing men in card art.

((this is a lil unrelated to this post, but i have nowhere else to put it, but, i’ve also seen a bit of transphobia in this subreddit, which is an issue i feel i shouldn’t talk about, as i’m not a member of the trans community myself))

now, at locals

my friends and i (some of which are in usa, as im in canada) have heard other players (and sometimes even store owners) using the f slur completely without punishment, and in one instance, where someone opposed this, they got harassed and bullied out the store.

i’m gay, and as of recently i just dont feel as safe nor comfortable at locals or even in some silly subreddit as i used to, just because people refuse to grow up- it’s honestly really sad for me because i’ve been playing this game on and off since i was young, and now i just cant enjoy it as much as i used to be able to knowing this is going on in our community, and i bet other lgbtq+ players in our community feel similar to the way i do.

anyways, i hope the homophobia in this community settles down, if not completely gone, as it should already be.
