new labor law?

my workplace today told us that we are changing from salaried employees to hourly (just us lower class peons that have been there for fewer than 3 years lol.) their reasoning at first was because of “some federal changes” and then “a new kansas law that takes effect january 1st.” my boss wouldn’t elaborate further. does anyone have any insight as to what this law may be??
