Aircraft conversion to Naval

Hi all. Very new to HoI4. Maybe 20 hours lol.

I was wondering if I can research the non aircraft version of a fighter, start building them and later research the naval version, is it possible to convert them for aircraft use or do I have to research the naval version first.
