Remember that Megachurch Mens Conference the pod had a segment about

I would find the podcast clip if I could. But basically awhile back Ethan clowned on this megachurch that brought a tank and crushed cars at a Men’s Conference. The church in question is James River Church, in the Springfield, MO area. I live nearby to this church. And let me just tell you. This place is absolutely fucking crazy. And the mens conference this year is drowning in controversy.

For some backstory, I went to it as a kid, and my mom and dad got blacklisted from the church leadership. They were prohibited to rejoin the worship team because, in the churches words. My parents were “not in unity.” (Btw. The person telling my parents this was at the time cheating on his wife with 12 other women LOL.) My mom swears to this day that its because my dad called the pastor’s wife (Debbie Lindell) out about something. And don’t get me wrong, my dad ended up being a major douche but at the time my parents marriage was fine lol.

Anyway, this church now is known for the fact that the pastor, John Lindell said participating in yoga, even if it’s just for exercise rather than any sort of meditative purposes is satanic and devil worshipping. The controversy that came after that one was holding a super spreader event during the height of COVID possibly causing Springfields hospitals to be overwhelmed with patients.

More recently, they had a controversy saying that they grew some lady’s toes back. Which. To be clear. The entire story around that is fucking crazy. The lady was caught cheating on her husband with a woman, and the church said that the toes growing back was god forgiving her. (Even though in the original report on her injuries years back she was shot in her abdomen not her foot. 💀). Basically they were embroiled in controversy because of that shit. It made national news.

Anywhoooo after that LONG exposition. I bring you to my reason for bringing this up here. THE MENS CONFERENCE. they just hosted their annual mens conference, and had invited Mark Driscoll. And for anyone who were previously evangelical christian, you most likely KNOW who the dreaded Mark Driscoll is. The church, for their cool performance they do every year at the mens conference, had an acrobatic show and sword swallowing. And happened to invite a guy who strips to perform as well. Mark Driscoll comes onto the stage and says that the men doing their performance “ripped their shirts off like women” (paraphrased) and then said that the church invited a jezebel spirit into the conference. As he was going on about the sword swallowing, John Lindell could be heard yelling at Mark for being out of line. Which prompted the crowd to boo John, and Mark to walk off stage.

Anywaayyy. Thats my little update on this insane church. My jaw literally dropped when I saw them talk about James River on the podcast. They are actually fucked as a congregation, and I hope they get the negative attention they deserve someday. Lol.
