ATS-Optimized Resumes – Essential or Overhyped?

I’ve been wondering how crucial it really is to have an ATS-optimized resume. After being laid off, I started applying for jobs, and I noticed a pattern: either I get a rejection email the very next day or no response at all—even with nearly 10 years in design and a solid portfolio that should at least secure an interview. Locally, I get job offers, but I’m aiming for remote work with a stable, well-established company, especially since the local job market is so unstable right now. Could my resume be the issue, or is this just the reality of job hunting today? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
