Finally Out of Pre-Diabetes After 5 Years – Hard Work Paid Off!
I just wanted to share something I feel really proud of. For the last 5 years, I’ve been dealing with diabetes, and honestly, it’s been a tough road. It seems like the first COVID outbreak in 2020 accelerated things — I almost ended up in the hospital back then. To be fair, I’ve always been overweight (even though I stayed active most of the time), and with a long family history of diabetes, it was probably just a matter of time, lol.
Back in August 2020, my A1C level was over 10 — a dangerously high and very serious level. After the diagnosis, I managed to bring it down to around 6.5 with medication and some lifestyle changes, but I was honestly tired of having to take meds twice a day just to keep it under control.
About 9 months ago, I decided to fully commit to improving my health and (hopefully) getting off meds. I wasn’t aiming for perfection — just being more intentional and consistent. I started meal prepping every week, paying closer attention to what I was eating, and focusing on building strength. The results were slow at first, but the last 3 monthshave been game-changing.
Right now, I feel stronger than ever — I’m benching inclined 275 lbs easily and squatting over 400 lbs. But the real win? My latest A1C reading came back at 5.7 — which means I’m officially in the low border for pre-diabetes range. My doctor even told me it’s safe to reduce some of my medications and cut the dosage on others. That part honestly feels better than any strength gain.
To give you an idea of how far I’ve come:
• First pic: ~290 lbs
• Second pic: ~270 lbs
• Latest pic: ~260 lbs
I’m still not where I want to be, and I’m not as ripped as some of the other guys here — but damn, I’m proud of myself. Getting leaner feels great, but improving my health is the biggest win. If you’re working toward something similar — stick with it. It’s slow, but it’s so worth it. 💪
