am i overreacting?

Okay, so 2 nights ago i experienced my first gallbladder attack and ended up in the ER after about 6 hours of pain (2-3 which were SEVERE) and throwing up bile. I was diagnosed with gallbladder sludge and given pain meds and anti-nausea. I haven’t really been taking these, though, because i’m pretty resistant to narcotics and have to drive.

I have already scheduled surgery for late July, but the discomfort just has not stopped since i left the ER. I’m have a total anxiety spiral. i felt a bit better yesterday and was able to move around and go about my business, but i couldn’t really eat anything. this morning, though, i woke up with the pain back with a vengeance. i haven’t eaten much other than toast and bone broth since my ER visit.

is it normal for symptoms to go on like this? they said my gallbladder didn’t look inflamed or blocked on my ultrasound but the discomfort just does not end. I don’t have a fever and i haven’t thrown up since, but it seems like eating and sleeping are particularly hard without feeling discomfort and nagging pain. Should i go back to the ER or is this normal to wait out the pain until my surgery date in a month? what are signs that i should go to the ER? I’m in the US, so i’m not eager to shell out that hospital bill again unless totally necessary, but it seems like most people are fine within a couple of hours, and that just has not been the case for me. this is my first experience with gallbladder problems so i don’t really know what to expect, or what’s a sign of emergency trouble.

not looking for medical advice, just wondering if anyone has a similar experience and how it ended up for you.
