South America in Gacha Games
"Olé! ¡Sol y Alegría en los Campos de Oro!"
Okay, so I played my share of Gacha in past 2-3 years, and honestly, there aren’t many that really dive into South America as a setting. Sure, you might catch glimpses of jungle area that remind you of the Amazon Rainforest, but that’s pretty much it. Maybe a nod to El Dorado, some samba or Brazilian dance, and a sprinkle of ancient Mayan culture, but that’s about it.
The only Gacha game that I know use South America more is Arknights with the Country Bolívar. Bolívar is pretty interesting because it’s a complex place dealing with foreign influence and local populist movements. It kind of echoes the Central American Crisis and the U.S. interventions in Nicaragua, giving off those 70s Colombian guerrilla vibes that are all about Castro and Che Guevara.
Now, you might be thinking, “That’s cool and all, but what if I’m not into that?” Well, using South America as a backdrop can also lead to some hilarious moments, especially if you know a bit of Spanish. I include couple of moment from Arknights event in Bolívar.
