Lamy cp1 spraying ink droplets whenever cap is put on - what can I do?

I recently returned to my Lamy cp1 as my primary writing tool. As much as I love this pen, however, I was very quickly reminded as to why I had stopped using it in the first place: whenever I put the cap on it, front of back, it causes a bunch of small ink droplets to spray out.

Without putting the cap on the back, the pen feels too short and unbalanced for my liking, but whenever I do so, I get ink speckles on my paper and surrounding surfaces. When closing it after use, ink spills into the cap, causing the part of the pen covered by the cap to be coated in ink.

It almost feels like it is closing too tightly, forcing ink out of the pen despite the airholes in the cap and back of the pen.

I tried looking for a solution to this exact problem online, but couldn't find a fix for it. Did anyone here experience a smiliar issue before and found a solution to it or has any idea as to what I could try? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I really love this pen and want to use it more but as long as this issue persists, it's just not practical.
