John Cena's Last Match

Cena comes out on Smackdown and explains himself. He says that he spent years of his life giving everything he had every single week and getting booed for it. He says that he never gave up doing the right thing, being the role model he aspired to be. But it was only after he went away that people started to cheer for him, and only when he announced his final year that people really got behind him.

He compares himself to Cody. He draws several parallels and says that despite the similarities, Cody doesn't get the same treatment he did. Cody doesn't get booed out of buildings. He says that when The Rock made his offer to Cody, he knew it would never be accepted, so he went to The Rock and made an offer of his own. Cena and The Rock, the two biggest stars in WWE history, teaming up to take away everything the fans love. Cena says that he'll take the title from Cody and he'll bury every young challenger who comes up against him because, after all, that's what he does, right?

Cena wins the belt at Mania and then spends the year doing just what he says. He faces a series of young challengers and he beats all of them. As the year goes on, Triple H and The Rock build to a Survivor Series match for control of the company, which The Rock wins when Roman Reigns turns on Triple H, earning Paul Heyman a favour from The Rock.

Finally, Cena gets to his final show in the final week of December. As it approaches, he says that he'll retain the belt in his last ever match and walk away with it, never to be seen again, because, after all, the fans loved the last guy who did that, right? Paul Heyman then appears, cashing in his favour with The Rock in order to cash in CM Punk's favour with him.

Cena's final match is against CM Punk, in a role reversal from Money in the Bank 2011 as Cena threatens to walk out with the belt and Punk is trying to save it. There are call backs to the 2011 match, like The Rock trying to screw Punk, and it plays out like Cody-Roman at Mania 40, with a cavalcade of legends and those who Cena buried during the course of the year fighting off The Rock and his henchmen. Punk nails a GTS to beat Cena and win the belt.

In the end, The Rock gets into the ring and starts to attack Cena, only for him to fire up and hit an AA on The Rock to end the show and his career in a way which allows the fans to show their appreciation.

Over the next few months, The Rock gets more and more psychotic, leading to everyone who backed him abandoning him and Triple H returning to regain control of the company. Roman Reigns is the only person who stands by The Rock as he's family.

This leads to The Rock retiring at Mania as Cody beats him to complete the trilogy and earn Triple H's control back. Punk also gets his main event as he successfully defends against Roman on Night One, and The Rock gives Roman the Cena treatment, leaving him with noone in his corner when he faces Cody on Night Two.
