Does basket size matter for espresso?

Recently, I purchased a Dedica 685 machine, which I use to make 18/36 espresso. Everything is great, except for one thing: in its 51mm open portafilter basket for 2 espresso portions, 18 grams of coffee barely fits. After extraction, some coffee grounds also remain on the extraction group, I came across an advertisement for a 51mm portafilter basket designed for making 4 servings of espresso. l'm wondering if using this basket would affect the taste of the coffee compared to the standard basket? Is it even ethical?
