Successfully converted 4 small e-credits to cash. Is this common?
I had 4 e-credits set to expire at the end of 2024 (ranging from $10-$28 across 4 family members). Based on advice I’d seen on this group (thanks all!) I booked 4 refundable tickets with e-credits + cash. The plan was to wait a month and cancel to extend the expiration of the e-credits rather than let them go to waste. I initiated the request for a refund a few days ago, and to my surprise I received the entire ticket amount back as a full refund, effectively converting all 4 e-credits to cash. I assume this was either 1) a mistake by the agent working in the case or 2) a small enough amount it wasn’t worth their time messing with it? I can’t imagine this is a normal occurrence (as it would create a backdoor to make essentially all non-refundable fares refundable if you’re willing to jump through a couple of hoops). Anybody else able to convert e-credits back to cash? We’re talking $76 total here, not exactly throwing a party, but who doesn’t like cash?
(For context, I booked online and requested the refund online, never called or used chat for these transactions. The refund wasn’t instant, I had to initiate the refund request and presumably an actual human worked on the “case”).
