Have the MCU and DCU ruined the comic book industry?

My distinguished colleague and I were discussing the current state of the comic book industry and wonder since the success of the original Iron Man and the Nolan Batman Trilogy has the quality of writing in comics gone down? I haven't really been reading mainstream comics since 91 so I can't speak with any real authority but my distinguished colleague has, and he feels that the writing in comics has been steadily declining in the last 20 or so years. And he blames the MCU & DCU for this, he says that Marvel and DC comics are just terrible now and "it breaks his heart" that so many classic Superheroes aren't getting the respect that they deserve. Is this true are Marvel and DC comics not worth reading anymore? And is it because of the film industry?
