Man claims Bhutan is a part of India!!!

This post on X (formerly Twitter) has not only been a cause of anger but also a wake up call to me(a Bhutanese) . OP claims Bhutan is part of India and might as well be. His claim and thought stems from the fact that India has lent so much help to the small kingdom and might as well claim the country as another state of India. And mind you; it’s not just him who thinks like that. I’ve met several Indian people who believe that Bhutan is an Indian state ( my friend wonders if they’re taught that in school). In hindsight, we can’t really blame such misconceptions on them solely, Bhutan has been heavily reliant on Indian people, economy and we can’t deny the fact that Indian diaspora has penetrated Bhutan deeply. We’ve feared the super power in the north so much to the point where we’ve cut them off completely. China and Bhutan have cultural, genealogical and even etymological similarities and yet we have avoided them for better or for worse. Instead we have openly welcomed Indian influence and India has lent help and thrown us crumbs in the name of “protecting” our country. I don’t know if this is a general consensus among Bhutanese, but i personally think if one day India woke up and decided to take Bhutan over, it would be done in a day! We already have a lot of their military bases spread through out the country. The question that stands here is, is India looking out for us? Or keeping us from building relationships with China and in-turn propelling Bhutanese renaissance. In another world, there is a Bhutan that has built a healthy relationship with China, and has learned from the country to go from rags to riches!

But oh well, we’ve had politicians kicked to the curb for citing such ideas and our fears have held us back so much. So who’s to say this post will be taken down as well. But if anything, go on X and tell this man to stfu ( he goes of in the comments telling everyone Bhutan is India)
