HiFi Price Vs Sound Quality

Hey everybody. Im in the market for my first better home stereo system.

Im a musician and have high end guitars, amplifiers and quality recording gear, but I dont know much about home stereo systems. Id like to get a idea of what I could expect to get for my money in a hifi system at different price points. This should help me narrow down how much I should budget for this.

Can anyone give me an idea of what you might get for, say, a $2k system (all components) vs a $5k system or $10k system? Are you able to give a rough idea of the level of fidelity you might get from each while controlling for the same format, i.e., 90% fidelity to lossless source for $2K vs 95% fidelity with a $5K system vs 98% fidelity for a $10k system? And for other formats (vinyl)?

I know there are many, many variables, but I hope to get a basic idea of how much I should get for my money.

High end audio seems to be a game of diminishing returns, and that $30k turntable does not likely yield a 10x return in sound fidelity when compared to a $3k table.

thanks for sharing your knowledge,
