Can someone clear up this small question I have with the Switch release?

Ok, so I think I understand this, but please clear it up for me.

Once the Switch version comes out, I can transfer my PC account to the Switch. So, does that mean I can still play the PC version under that account or will it only be on the Switch now? I understand there is no cross-platform. So, I am considering just starting from scratch on the Switch and keeping my PC account untouched and playing both.

Is that what most people are doing?
