b1/b2 visa with traffic offense in the Netherlands
Hello,
I’m a Dutch citizen and I would like to travel to USA for tourist purposes. However, I was involved in a traffic accident in the Netherlands and will get a criminal record for a minor crime with about 300 euro fine. The translation of the crime is “failure to yield at yield markings, causing a collision”.
As I understand it I’m ineligible for ESTA. But will I be also ineligible forever for B1/B2? Note that other party (a bicyclist) was injured due to accident. He was released from hospital after some tests.
There is still time for me to object to this criminal decision, but my lawyer recommends not to object as it’ll cost more just in lawyer fees and he thinks it’s like 50% chance for the objection to succeed, as we don’t have camera recordings and can be difficult to prove i wasn’t guilty. I have no issues paying this penalty but if it’ll make me inadmissible to USA for a long time, I would take my chances to try to acquit the case in court.
