Program Requirement Change?

New academic calendar came out for my major, effective next winter term, in which I will still be a student. It excludes a course which was previously required, in which I am currently enrolled and will likely fail.  I’ve read that you can essentially pick whatever academic calendar you want to graduate, as long as you’re an active student during that time. My faculty is LFS, is it safe to say that this course won’t be required, and I should skip studying for the midterm next week?

I’ve already messaged advising, and am waiting on a response. Before anyone suggests it, I’m not going to stick it out if it’s not a requirement, as I have no interest in the course whatsoever and don’t want to spend any more time than absolutely necessary in learning about it.
