So I’ve been reading the books.
TLDR: the first couple seasons are not bad if you haven’t read the books, but if you have then they are hard to watch.
So I’m sure this has been said 100 times but since I just got around to it, it’s my turn to rant and see other people’s opinions. So I’ve watched the expanse once all the way through and I fell in love with the show. I decided to rewatch it to show to a friend and now I’m reading the books and rewatching the respective episodes. I currently finished the second book and it’s episodes in the show and good lord I can’t believe how much they changed. Everywhere from how the fight transpired over IO, to completely excluding Prax’s introduction, it just pissed me off. The show and book just don’t mesh well for me so far and I’ve been told it gets better so I have my hopes still high. But come on like they really had no reasons to make so many changes, you can’t even say it’s a budget issue when the book covers 14 episodes. Prax felt like he was less than a side character in the show. Errinwright goes about things completely different. We don’t get so many scenes that could’ve been classic if put into the show. There felt like so many added characters and side plots that detract from the main issues at hand. All of these issues to include some very sub-par scripts that don’t really show these characters for who they are. More sub-plots to add character depth when these characters have pretty straight-forward personalities. It’s just upsetting to me because I’m loving the books and I love the show too. However I can’t help but compare them and lose my mind over the changes. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk and letting me get this off my chest.
