Living in Tallahassee, really nothing to do?
I’m potentially moving to Tallahassee for grad school at FSU. I’ve lived in both small towns (Missoula, MT) and Big cities (Las Vegas, NV). I’d honestly prefer something in between. Me and my partner aren’t big on night life, drinking, or even necessarily eating out at dine in restaurants.
What we love about Vegas is the food options (explicitly not dine in style, so like fast food, or more carry out places, I.e. Mexican, Indian, Chinese, Thai etc). The cloths shopping (lots of malls, we enjoy places like PacSun, Abercrombie, Hollister, Forever 21, etc.) as well as other stores like Toy/collectibles, comic, playing cards, etc.
What we hate is the lack of walking available, not necessarily walkability but just the availability of enjoyable walks. Everything here is concrete and dirt and cars zoom by at frightening speeds.
Montana was the other extreme. Not much to do but the walking was GREAT.
Also, we take care of my mother in law. While we know Tally isn’t very walkable (small town spread out over large area), if we did live near a grocery store, is it safe for her to walk on her own (she’s in her 60s) or would that be too dangerous? In general how safe is it to go on walks around dusk? Say if we wanted to take our dog on an evening walk? In Montana I’d have no issue, but in Vegas I would likely never.
TLDR; is there really nothing to do in Tally? Or do people say that because it’s lacking amusement parks/beaches and other attractions from big cities. Are there good malls, parks, farmers markets etc. How safe is it to walk around the town during the day/evening?
