Looking for a basic, cheaper laptop good for school and light gaming

My current Inspiron 7375 that I bought in 2017/2018 is...fine...except that it now shuts itself off every now and then when it decides it is overwhelmed lol (ex: running a game, more than 10 tabs open, been working for more than 2 hours, etc). Time for something new!

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget: $600 USD (but lower would be fantastic)
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Preferably no
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance and battery life above all, current laptop battery life is driving me insane
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not at all
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Around 13 inch but if there's a great option that's bigger/smaller I'm open.
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Basic occasional photoshop usage. Some games (see next question). Would like to be able to run ArcGIS
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Mostly play Stardew Valley, would like to play Little Goody Two Shoes but my current laptop doesn't like running it, would like to play Portal 2 and haven't for fear that my laptop would explode. I'm not a true gamer so I both do not know much and, I guess, do not care much about specific graphics settings.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? No touch screens (my worst enemy) and no desire for anything too fancy. Just something solid and reliable.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I am an English student, therefore I am mostly doing schoolwork in word processors as opposed to STEM major where I would need to run complicated programs. I am sort of laptop illiterate and iPhone-pilled but I really do not want a MacBook so I appreciate suggestions.

TIA!
