Ps5 controller on steam

So I used to play on ps4 awhile ago and it's been a few years, and when I moved in with an old friend of mine I downloaded it on my pc hoping we could play together. Now I've been gaming on my pc with a ps5 controller for awhile now at this point just hadn't played Smite, but when I opened Smite and changed my preferred control method to a controller it still won't work and I wanted to make sure if it was just in the menu it won't work or if it just won't work at all. I've searched forums and Googled what I could but no solutions yet. I've tweaked steam and Smite itself and done what I could but nothing I've found online has worked yet.
