Which Call of Duty game should I buy?

Hi, I have never played any of Call of Duty games, but now there is sale for this series on Steam and I'm considering buying one of the Call of Duty games to see if this franchise is for me. So which one of Call of Duty games has the best campaign? And in older CoD games multiplayer is disabled?
