Online ESL Chinese Job

Hi there, my friend recently got a side gig as an ESL teacher for Chinese college students. I want to be happy for her but so much of it seems so sketchy, I just want to know if this could be a scam.

She was working at her retail job and a long-time regular offered her an online ESL job. He is allegedly an immigration attorney who sent her his info and degree (obviously anyone can make an illegitimate certificate and email it) I didn't ask to see it because she isn't very happy that I think this is a scam, but I've been scammed before myself. Here are some things about this job that were huge red flags to me.

  1. No interview or CV required, he just walked in at her original job and asked if she wanted it, exchanged information and has now been contacting her via text. She has been contacting the students through WeChat. She has zero experience in teaching and no degree or certificate in anything, no schooling except high school.
  2. It's 5-10 hours/week and a flat rate of $700/week. They Zelle'd it to her up front before classes were even scheduled (they are going to send it up front every week). No contract but it's a 6 month class, apparently can just leave whenever.
  3. He never gave her the name of a company or anything relating to one.
  4. I looked at the texts and they were very unprofessional, no capitals or periods and he is an American. She has been chatting with the prospective students and yes, I know they don't speak English well that's the whole point. But I'm already looking at these sketched out. Ex: says things like "yes, teacher" all the time. Spaces, punctuation and capitals are all over the place or not used at all by the students.
  5. She is being told to create all lesson plans and classes completely by herself with no supervision (again, she is not a teacher and these are allegedly college students not preschoolers learning the alphabet). They gave her a few examples but other than that she is on her own. She will be chatting with them via video for about an hour at 9pm each day as there's a 12 hour difference.
  6. Classes are starting immediately. This whole thing happened within the span of like 2 days.

I've been scammed before so I can be a little crazy with this stuff sometimes, maybe it's a real gig that just gives off a sketchy vibe I don't know. They also didn't ask her for money they gave it to her but the up front seems weird to me, but maybe that's common. I couldn't really find much online as it's mostly flooded with scams of people physically going to China. The guy she is speaking to did tell her if she ever wanted to visit China he could give her/sign her up for a tour for free but wasn't pushy in telling her to come or anything.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I forgot to mention that he went out of his way to say "If any of the students ask what school you went to say that's an inappropriate topic to discuss".
