Sizing confusion between blacksmith and iron ranger

So I went into a store the other day, and tried 10.5 D iron Rangers in copper and Amber. Both were a bit snug, especially on the instep. Then I tried on some blacksmith in oil, slick briar size 10D. These felt more comfortable on the instep plus slightly more so in the toe room than the iron rangers that were a .5 size larger! Makes no sense and I’m confused now. Lol. Any thoughts?
