The existence of torture makes it morally questionable to support the continuation of life
I visited a dentist after a long time and a thought occurred to me when things became slightly painful. What if I wasn't at the dentist and was instead here to get tortured? What if this was just a mild teaser of what is to come?
Then it occurred of me that millions of humans in history have suffered absolutely horrific torture. Dozens of people are likely being tortured at this very moment. Oral torture would probably be among the worst kind of torture.
It's also absolutely wild to me that there are so many humans out there who think that torture is acceptable. So many humans who have participated in it and continue to.
Unfortunately torture is the norm rather than the exception when we look at all life on Earth. I cannot relate to how other animals feel but just thinking about the maximum possible torture that can be inflicted upon me makes me wonder about the rationality of staying alive and exposing yourself to that risk.
