Internet Storytelling

Something I’ve been interested in for a while now is how the internet as a medium can be utilised in literature, whether it’s books set online (like Dennis Cooper’s The Sluts), books published online (Web novels, things published serialised through emails, even Dracula Daily) or books on how the digital world can affect or has affected people offline. I feel like I haven’t yet read a book that really utilises the internet to its fullest potential. I’m mostly looking into books published online, but most don’t seem to use their medium/platform to its advantage.

I love the idea of reading a fictional story on a website that’s designed to feel like spending all night digging deeper into an internet rabbit hole, scrolling through pages and gifs and images. What about a story told in a Tumblr-style blog? Ergodic literature and epistolary novels that “take place” online do exist, but how many of them can actually be read online on the platforms they take place on? Imagine if Dennis Cooper’s The Sluts was written on an actual (fictional, of course) forum site. Do you know of any examples like this? The closest I can think of is the 9Mother9Horse9Eyes story told through Reddit comments. I’m mostly looking for inspiration here, just brainstorming a bit and writing it as a post on here. Maybe get a conversation or two going!
