[PubQ] Newly Agented - what does the standard Agent/Writer MS review period look like?
Hey all,
Back in January, I signed with a fairly well known literary agency. To avoid confusion, I'll call them agency #1. Long story short, as soon as I signed with this agency, I received an offer of rep from another agency (agency #2) known in the industry for being a competitor to agency #1. I let them know I already signed the contract with agency #1 after which agency #2 said "if anything falls through with agency #1, or goes wrong, come to us." - Which felt like a bit of an odd thing to say. I didn't think anything of it.
But now, I'm wondering - did they know something? I've had some radio silence from my agent (who has a lot of best-sellers under their name, and so I know they are super busy) but I don't know what's normal.
Timeline: Signed in January, immediately received feedback and edits. Sent an edited MS end of January. It's now the end of Feb, and while we have been in touch, they have yet to read my edited MS (so it's been about a month). We spoke last week and they said that they have yet to get to it, and they are super excited to dive back into my edits - but no timeline was described. Is that normal? We've casually discussed other works I've got cooking, and they've showed enthusiasm for those titles as well, but it just kind of feels like I'm at a bit of a standstill?
I get good vibes when we talk face to face, or over email - but the long silences in between has me wondering if I should just jump ship and go to agency #2 before things stretch on longer. I just want to make sure I'm making the best decision for me - of course, you all know how much hard work and effort we put into our writings.
Looking forward to hearing back from this supportive and helpful community! And please, if i'm overreacting, pls feel free to tell me to calm my tits.
