2 years of plantar fasciitis and had Tenex procedure done this month
Timeline of very unfun plantar fasciitis saga:
September 2022- Ran 100 miles in a month. (I am stupid for this, I know, but had done this four times before without issue) Left foot/heel began hurting.
November 2022- Podiatrist took xray confirming plantar fasciitis. Said 95% of cases clear up within a few months. Gave me a cortisone shot.
January 2023- Still in pain. Podiatrist gave me another shot and custom created orthotics.
May 2023- Did intensive stretching and physical therapy. Still in pain.
July 2023- Starved myself, lifted everyday and lost 20lbs so that less weight would help my foot. No change in pain.
August 2023- Went to an orthopedist and had an MRI done. Doctor referred me to an orthopedic surgeon.
September 2023- Surgeon told me I am not a candidate for surgery of the plantar fascia as my MRI only showed low grade inflammation. Told me to stretch and ice it. Left the office crying as this had not been working for me.
October 2023- February 2024- Continued to suffer in pain.
March 2024- Met with another orthopedist who does a specialized procedure where they cut into your calf muscle to release calf tightness which could be affecting my foot. Expensive procedure with low rate of effectiveness and possible complications to where I could be permanently crippled. Decided to hold off on it.
April 2024- Did acoustic sound wave therapy with a chiropractic office. Waste of time and money.
May 2024- Had bloodwork done and found out I was severely nutrient deficient and that can be an aggravating factor for inflammation with plantar fasciitis. Started taking heavy supplements with hopes that the condition would go away.
July 2024- Got a second opinion with another orthopedist who referred me to a doctor that works specifically with the biomechanics of the foot and offers a few other options for treatment. Nutrient levels now at normal levels now but still in pain.
August 2024- Still cannot walk more than a few thousand steps or stand for more than an hour without severe pain. Saw specialized orthopedic doctor. Did an ultrasound and found a bone spur that he believes to be causing the issue. Offers a treatment for a relatively non-invasive procedure which is a six week recovery time.
October 2024- Had the tenex procedure done on October 1st. Was not put under anesthesia. Took tramadol for two day and ibuprofen for the next week or so. Was nervous to put any pressure on my foot so I stayed completely off of it using crutches to walk around. At my two week check up my doctor told me he wanted me to start putting weight on it. It hurt badly in the side of the foot and the back of the heel because it was tightening up due to not having walked at all. I started walking around in the boot and now (October 24th) can put some weight on it without the boot. Have been doing physical therapy. Back of heel is still very tight but I am still not sure if it fixed the issue (the plantar fasciitis pain I had been having was more arch based) and I haven't been able to walk enough on it to tell if the pain has resolved. (My plantar fascia didn't hurt ever at rest just when I walked and stood).
Will let everyone know if this finally solves it. It has been a horrible time in my life.
Thanks.
