Is there seemingly any plans to change 1 life mapping, or the ability to respec asendency?
As a more casual player, I feel like the two above things are really good at hindering a potentially much wider audience.
The game asks you if you want the standard or hardcore experience when you create an account and I had an absolute blast with the campaign on standard, as someone new to PoE it was a great experience. I love games like this and the buildcrafting, power fantasy and endless grind were great.
But then came mapping, and the lack of ability to 'try things about' by respeccing my ascendency.
Firstly ascendency, I have no ability to see what the other ascendency is like and I don't want to spend 40 hours doing an entire second playthrough to max out a second character to see if it's good, why limit the players ability to try builds, make it cost 50k currency or something I don't care, but why limit the ability to buildcraft with the character you've already pumped so much time into.
Secondly mapping, if I want to sweat my ass off in a 1 life mode I can play either of the Trials modes, the Chaos or Sekhmas ones, but I picked 'Standard', the easiest option avaliable to me, and now I need to sweat my ass off in maps just to progress, because of how easy it is to die to single effects, on-death blasts and off-screen enemies, While they have improved these issues, they are by no means fixed, and having 6 portals (6 lives) would give you the leeway to have a couple deaths and a couple loot runs before finishing a map.
All in all, I love this game, it's a great game for chilling, playing a power fantas with options to sweat in the rougelike trail modes, but why on earth does the standard base experience come with so many locks and hardcore features that you are not advertised in the campaign.
Am I in the minority here?
