Controlling speed on drop in [41YO]

I'm trying to some basic mini-ramp / transition skills and have this problem that when I drop in I feel like I'm going too fast to try to commit to a rock to fakie or get into an axle stall.

Pumping up from flat is spooky they other way - I feel like I'm in hang-up-territory for rock to fakies.

How do you controll the amount of speed you get from a drop in?
