Does anyone here follow the NBA? Pls help me out

I have been watching a Few matches and found the whole format to be very interesting. Although I am new to this and do not know how exactly to choose a favourite team or a favourite player and then stay loyal to them. How did you all go about choosing your favourite team or realising that this is your favourite team or player? Also, I really want to learn and become a proper NBA fan. Now that the preseason has started, any suggestions on how you would have watched the sport had you been in my place ?how did you all start watching and get into the sport? What are your stories and your roadmap to getting into loving and following it?
