ATT prepaid physical SIM to eSIM (no store visit needed!)
Just wanted to share my experience with transitioning physical SIM to eSIM with an ATT prepaid plan. If you search online, you will find on ATT forum the customer service telling you you could directly do this on your iPhone. This is definitely NOT the case. Everytime it just promped "oops.... contact ATT...". I also visited one corporate store trying to figure this out, but the guy there just tell me its not possible with a prepaid SIM (which is also definitely NOT the case). I also ran into this video on youtube, this guy explains things much better than most ATT customer service I encounted. But the function he mentioned has been disabled: if you go to ATT prepaid account - "my device" - "update device", it will now prompt "Looks like your device cannot be updated here" They really makes every effort to make things harder for prepaid customer.
So here is the final solution that saved me: if you log into your ATT prepaid account on your phone, there will be a banner called "Text Chat" (it should be the same if you call 611, but I don't have DP for calling), ask them to transit your physical sim to esim, all the information they need from you would be your IMEI and EID, and all the things can be done over text message. Once you receive the notification that you have a new line available to add (at this time you should also lose connection on your physical sim), power off your device and turn it on after 3 minutes and then you are good to go! Everything is so smooth and no need to visit corporate store as many corporate store representatives have no idea you can do the transition with prepaid account, and its simply not worth the driving and explaining when you can do this over text so easily!
