Why It Makes No Sense Why We Can't Assign Separate Flairs and Finishes
Even though I did not get the answer that I was hoping for when I asked about this on Discord back in January, I still held out hope that CM would launch with the ability to assign flares and finishes separately.
Now that it hasn't, here is why that decision makes little sense.
The hardest way to get to level 30 would be to split a card 87 times, as I said here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MarvelSnap/comments/1i2y325/i_did_the_character_mastery_math_we_are_screwed/
Right now, there are currently 28 finishes\) and 46 flares+. A level 30 CM character has over ~1200 possible splits, which is no doubt why they put in the ink/gold/krackle pity system.
In order for us to separate flairs and finishes, the CM and Split system would have to A) allow for a new finish or flare to be unlocked after every split and B) also allow for a flare or finish to be unlocked at every level.
This means that you would need, at a worst case scenario, 116 flairs and finishes (29 to be unlocked for each CM level, and 87 for each split),
If we take out the "None" flairs and finishes, we currently have 72 flairs and finishes. Which leaves us with 44 that we need to find. Here is where datamining and my wild ass assumptions come into play.
Currently, there are five other colors that have been datamined: Orange, Pink, Silver, Teal, and Copper. If Wakandan Tech, Embers, Confetti, Trails, Tone, Glimmer, Stardust, and Krackle all released with these same colors, we would gain another 78. (And a lot of these have already been datamined). This is waaaaaaaaaaaay over the limit needed to meet this bare minimum threshold.
Even if Second Dinner decided that each split should result in the game trying to give us a unique flair and finish we don't have, I still think that would be OK. The average F2P can earn enough credits to do 3-3.5 splits per week and we are averaging more than 1 card released a week. It's not like your average player is going to run out of cards to split and combos to chase.
Also, with the current number of flairs and finishes released, if you have a level 30 character, adding just 1 new flair and one new finish adds another 73 split combos to the game.
TLDR: There are enough flares and finishes that have been datamined that there is no reason for this not to exist.
