LGBTQ+ Rights Under Attack in Kerala – Cyberbullying, Hate Speech & Legal Battles

Kerala’s LGBTQ+ community is facing a massive backlash, with increasing cyberbullying, hate speech from political figures, and even tragic suicides. Religious groups and men’s rights activists are fueling opposition, while a pride march in Malappuram was violently attacked.

On the legal front, Kerala has made progress by banning conversion therapy and recognizing same-sex cohabitation. There’s also a push to amend marriage laws for transgender individuals. But with rising hostility, the battle for equality is far from over.

Religious organizations and men’s rights activists have launched a strong opposition to LGBTQ+ rights, leading to increased cyberbullying and even tragic suicides. Political figures like Dr. M. K. Muneer and K. M. Shaji have made statements that many see as hate speech, further fueling the controversy. A pride march in Malappuram was even attacked by a homophobic mob. The Kerala High Court has now stepped in, calling for action against these cyberattacks.
