Is there any career in IT for me?

I originally wanted to go into software development because I love creating programs and things in general myself but became disinterested in software development once I realized I needed to study for random coding problems that don't have to do with the job for months to potentially pass interviews.

I have a degree in computer science so I thought maybe I would try IT in general. I ended up with a helpdesk support role and quickly realized I disliked it. Sitting for a whole day answering calls straight, was tasking and I just felt like a replaceable cog in a machine. I realize I enjoy handling software side of things more but I can tolerate tinkering with hardware.

Everytime I created apps or programs to help automate somethings we did at work, management would mostly block my attempts to use it because all internal programs needed to be signed off from headquarters. I felt like I really couldn't be creative or provide value.I left helpdesk after about a year and one of the main reasons was because of this.

Does anyone know if there are any potential jobs in IT for me out there?

A job where you don't have to go through intensive eccentric coding challenge interviews and you can be creative on the job, for example create your own programs to automate things at work? I realize I like to create things for myself or others to use.

Also this job would be able to be gotten by someone with only a year of help desk support (I really prefer not to do helpdesk again) and a bs in computer science?
