Can someone explain to me how the Samsung washer/dryer "Series" work and their year of release?

Samsung has various washers and dryers of different series e.g. "Series 5" or "Series 9".
I can't for the life of me understand a) when was each series released and b) why sometimes some "lower" series are more expensive than the higher series.
What do the series mean? 😭
